Science

I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious – Albert Einstein

At Whitegrove, we aim to inspire and excite our children’s natural curiosity about the world around them and foster a thirst for knowledge. In Science we promote the experience of exploring and investigating scientific phenomena, in a range of contexts, to ensure a continually evolving knowledge and understanding of the world.

Our children are encouraged to have an enquiring mind and to ask questions and be questioned. We encourage them to take risks, investigate, reflect, make and learn from mistakes, whereby they acquire and apply core skills which equip them with broader skills and resilience for an ever-changing future.

Practical hands on work lies at the heart of Science at Whitegrove. Children need opportunities to develop practical and enquiry skills in order to engage with the world in a scientific way and to make sense of what they are learning about. This hands-on experience promotes curiosity and engagement and provides opportunities for discussions and questions which develop understanding.

It is important that children are able to ask their own questions, make their own predictions about how or why, and are given the opportunity to investigate their questions to try and answer them, through observations, explorations, investigations or by conducting their own research, and reflect on their predictions before reaching a conclusion.
